Mozambique, inauguration of the new mini-grid delivering electricity to businesses and households

he inauguration ceremony of the new Minigrid in Matchedje, in the far north of Mozambique, was held on Friday 30 July 2021.
This is a new plant that will bring energy to around 1,200 people, offering them the opportunity to read, heal, meet and work even after sunset.
The President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, spoke directly to the event, with members of the local government and with representatives of FUNAE – the National Energy Fund – the government agency that contracted the construction of the work. The new Minigrid was made by Mocitaly (subsidiary of Heliopolis). This minigrid, with a power of 200kw, allows the supply of electricity to 300 households and about 15 commercial and service activities.

Minigrid technology allows the creation of independent systems for the production, storage and distribution of electricity even in remote places, where it is not possible to create an electricity grid connected to the national one. Specifically, the new Minigrid inaugurated in July 2021 consists of:
- 920 photovoltaic panels with a power of 250 watts each
- A building of 300 square meters intended for the accumulation of energy for the night through batteries, control rooms and for residential use
- An electrical distribution network with a total extension of 8 kilometers
Mocitaly has fully completed the work, with great efforts and overcoming many logistical difficulties, due to the pandemic, social tensions, but also to the location of the plant, which is about 250 km away – of dirt track – from the nearest city.
